Trip

heyy everyone...hope ur having funn at camp canoe! i got ur email lindsay, and at first i thought it was grammy who wrote it so i was just a little confused. u better accept my friend request on facebook cause jordan already did. katherine, u need to get a facebook! anyway, right now we are in the almafi coast (west coast of italy, really close to naples), and we have been here for 4 nights and are leaving tomorrow for istanbul. we started off in rome for 2 days, and after istanbul we're going to prague, czech republic and then to milan for night and then we come home. we got into rome last sunday morning after flying from newark on europe's worst known and most bankrupt airline, alitalia, which turned out to not be all that bad. so the first day, we went to the spanish steps, which are basically big steps near our hotel, where my dad paid an asian man to draw pictures of our faces. the pictures look cool even though they look nothing like us haha. for lunch, we ate at a rooftop restaraunt which had an amazing view of the city. after lunch, we all got some sleep and ate dinner at like 9:00 at night. italians eat later for some reason. the next day, we got a guide to show us all of the sights around rome such as the colloseum, some other place, and another place that i cant remember but they were all cool. for lunch, we were oringinally told we couldn't eat there because we were all wearing shorts but we needed to be wearing pants, however, my dad decided that we would all go back to the hotel and change in to pants so we could eat at that restaurant. once they let us in, the food was pretty good, and we spent the rest of the afternoon sightseeing. for the last night in rome, we ate at a local family restaurant that was really good. the next day we went to where we are now where we have basically just been hanging out. ill post pix later when we get a usb cord. anyway, u guys need to be rely easy on grammie and gramps so we can convince them to do it again next year!! haha.

Fun in Saint John

This morning we had a wonderful tour of Saint John's via bus with a wonderful retired teacher as the tour leader. He was fun and knowledgeable - would have enjoyed being in one of his classes in high school!

The Bay of Fundy and the Saint John's river create a very different water action than I have ever seen before - it is called the reversing falls - the Bay of Fundy flows into the river and casues rapids and falls that reverse depending on the tide. At low tide the river's water tumbles into the bay's water and then the tide is high the water falls into the river - most interesting!

The birds and the seals arrive at the tidal change and feast!

Tuesday we traveled to Saint John

Yesterday's travels took us to Rockwood Park in Saint John, New Brunswick. This is a big city park that also has campsites along with golf, swimming and horseback riding. This is a port city and rather hilly. The Irving Oil Company is based here.

After arriving, Janet and I made a trip to Monkton to the Cosco for some badly needed supplies. We traveled 190 miles for the food and for a new computer printer for us. We got back rather tired for happy hour.

Bill went sightseeing with the other while we were gone.

Last night we ate at Billy's Seafood Restaurant - was great and we all had a great time.
